Jules Purnell (they/them/theirs) is a queer, non-binary, transmasculine sexuality educator, speaker, and writer living in Western Massachusetts. They identify as multiracial, the descendant of immigrants from Southeast Asia and Western Europe.

They hold a BA in Women and Gender Studies and Sociology with a concentration in Deaf Studies from the University of Southern Maine and an M.Ed. in Human Sexuality Studies from Widener University. Jules is an AASECT Certified Sexuality Educator, and has completed training in Sensate Focus with IMBT (Integrative Mind Body Therapies). Jules’s knowledge and expertise includes subjects such as: LGBTQIA+ cultural awareness, BDSM/kink, ethical non-monogamy, sexual violence prevention and response, and many other aspects of human sexuality.

Jules has engaged in restorative practice since 2010, having guided many people through various restorative processes along the way. They completed training in restorative process facilitation through the University of San Diego’s Center for Restorative Justice.

They have been published or featured in Refinery 29, Cosmopolitan, Bustle, PinkNews, and on podcasts such as NPR’s Life Kit, Sex Ed In Color, Loving Without Boundaries, and Take Back Your Sex. They have spoken on the radio shows ISM PRISM and the Blunt Youth Radio Project. Jules was a co-host for Attraction Lab’s speed dating event through Guerilla Science. Jules has presented at the Philadelphia Trans Wellness Conference, the Woodhull Sexual Freedom Summit, the Transcending Boundaries Conference, and helped coordinate and present at the MESH(in) Conference just to name a few!

Jules currently works as a consultant for several organizations, including non-profit, K-12, higher ed, and private practices. They have served as a case manager, a classroom educator, a needs assessment provider, and restorative justice facilitator. They are passionate at working with people of all ages, from Pre-K to college-age and professional adult learners!
